Having reset the MCB my electric shower is now not heating the water fully, why?

The most likely reason why the unit is not heating the water fully is that a heating element has failed. The elements can be tested for continuity using a multi-meter. If open circuit a new heater assembly is needed.

Note: If an element has failed other parts within the unit may have been affected it is therefore important to check all the electrical circuits in the unit for signs of failure.

How can I prove my shower unit is within its warranty period when a service engineer visits?

Proof of purchase is required to show to the service engineer when he calls. If this is not available, the manufacturing date code on the shower is checked.

How do I clean my showerhead?

How to clean the showerhead can be found in the fitting instructions for the model of shower that you have.

In some cases the sprayplate can be removed from the showerhead using a key that was supplied with the shower. The sprayplate can then be soaked in a proprietary de-scaling fluid.

If the sprayhead does not have a removable sprayplate then the head can be left to soak in de-scaling fluid for an hour or so to remove the scale.

I am having difficulty in selecting a comfortable showering temperature with my mixer shower and pump, what should I check?

  • Check that the stored water is approximately 55 to 65°C. If it is not, then the thermostat on the hot water cylinder needs adjusting.

  • Check that the flow rate on fully cold is equal to the flow rate on fully hot. Using a bucket and stopwatch can check this. If the flow rates are not equal, then check for any blockages and/or air locks in the system.

I have a Satellites LP digital shower, it has worked fine for a few days and now after pressing the start button it keeps stopping after a few seconds. Is there anything I should check before arranging a service call?

Satellites digital showers provide thermostatic control of the showering temperature and if there is a loss of either the cold or hot supply the unit will switch off to prevent the delivery of uncomfortable hot or cold water. It will not be possible to resume showering until both hot and cold water supplies are restored.

Things to check:

  • Are filters blocked
  • Is there air in either the hot or cold supply pipes

The flow from my mixer shower is less than I expected, what is the usual performance of a shower on a gravity system?

Flow rate from mixer showers varies depending on the available head of water and restrictions within the supply and valve. Commonly flow rate is between 3 and 5 litres per minute. To ensure optimum performance from a gravity fed mixer shower the following guidance should be followed.

  • Use as few 90°C elbows as possible, where possible use pulled bends
  • Use full way lever or gate valves, do not fit restrictive stop taps or 10mm internal bore service valves
  • Follow manufacturer recommendations regarding pipe size
  • Ensure the mixer is specified for low pressure application
  • Always flush out pipes before final connection to avoid debris blocking inlet filters
