A GOOD SEED - HOSPITAL GARDEN PROJECT UNVEILED FOLLOWING DONATION FROM TRITON SHOWERS

A contribution from Triton Showers has helped the George Eliot Hospital build a brand-new outdoor space for its inpatients.

The shower manufacturer donated £5,000 towards the hospital’s Serenity Garden Project, with the first phase of the build now complete.

The garden will provide a much-needed outside area for patients to enjoy. Due to the specialist needs of its users, the facility has been designed to provide accessibility and manoeuvrability, supporting usage by anyone who may be bed-bound or using a wheelchair.

A designated stroke rehabilitation feature has been created to allow visitors to practice day-to-day activities that will help to enhance their confidence, including walking across a bridge, using a ramp, and hanging washing on a line. In addition, the facility will provide the opportunity to practise light gardening and navigate uneven flooring, poles and raised kerbs in preparation for the patient being discharged from hospital.

In 2022, an all-weather lodge will be installed in the garden, which will provide cover for guests to enjoy indoor activities and workshops.

“The garden will provide a much-needed facility to assist some of the inpatients that need it most, not only with rehabilitation, but also by providing a sensory experience and safe space to enjoy activities all year round. We’re proud to play a part in the project and hope it helps visitors for years to come.”
